Join Western Growers and Secretary of
the California Department of Food and Agriculture, Karen Ross, for a special industry event!

A YEAR OF FOCUS: DEVELOPING THE SKILLS OF TOMORROW TODAY!

AgTechX Ed at Reedley College officially kicks off the AgTechX Ed Initiative – a statewide effort, led by Western Growers and California Department of Food and Agriculture Secretary Karen Ross, to cultivate a future workforce with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate emerging on-farm technology. 

The event will be comprised of 3 panels, with several keynote addresses, covering topics including: industry issues and skill identification; education and workforce development strategies; and current and future workforce needs on the farm.

The reception will include product demonstrations including GUSS and the Burro, a chance to see the Reedley College Farm, the new Reedley College Math and Science Building and a showcase with WG Center for Innovation & Technology residentsMore details to follow!

During the event, companies will learn about the opportunity to work with the WGCIT during the coming year on accelerating prevention and rapid diagnostic solutions. Details will be provided during the session.

Dr. Rodrigo Nieto is a geostrategist and defense futurist focused on the consequences of the accelerating pace of change in homeland security and policing environments. He is a research professor at the National Security Affairs Department and at the Center for Homeland Defense and Security at the Naval Postgraduate School and has also worked as a certified facilitator and instructor for the Command College for the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and a former instructor at the Executive Academy of the Emergency Management Institute. He is also a faculty member of Singularity University. 

Dr. Nieto has a Ph.D. in Geopolitics from the French Institute of Geopolitics of the University of Paris. He holds a J.D. from the State University of San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

KAREN ROSS was appointed Secretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture on January 9, 2019, by Governor Gavin Newsom. In re-appointing Secretary Ross, Governor Newsom cited her unmatched leadership experience in agricultural issues nationally, internationally and here in California, in areas including environmental stewardship, climate change adaptation and trade. Secretary Ross was initially appointed by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. in 2011.
